Some time ago now, a wonderful woman that I had the pleasure to work with retired. Someone suggested that as a retirement gift we could have a portrait of her done, naturally my co-workers requested that I take this project on.
I actually did not have much time to work on this piece, but I am quite happy with how it turned out.
So this post is long overdue, I know that. I will tell you why at the end.
So on June 11th, 2015 I participated in yet another Art Battle event. This one had a much larger audience, and it had more on the line. The winner won the title, plus a flight to Ottawa to compete in the National finals in July. It was also extra scary because the other people competing, had previously won Art Battles, or had been audience favourites. I was nervous, to say the least.
To be honest, I was more prepared for this battle than the first one I competed in, but yet I feel that I performed better for the first one. I did have other things on my mind though…
I made it through round #1 with a painting of a Muslim girl, and in my second round I painted a woman in black and white.
In the end I lost this battle, to Hovey Eryes. Both of her paintings were beautiful, and I am glad she won. She went on to Ottawa, but unfortunately did not win nationals. She has however helped host some Art Battle events over the past year. I hope to meet her again one day in Art Battle!
So why did I wait so long to post? And why was I happy that Hovey won? Well at the time of this battle I was 5 and a half months pregnant! If I had won I would have had to fly to Ottawa in my third trimester, without my husband Mike.
Why have I not posted any other art projects since last summer? Well I spent the rest of the summer learning to crochet, then crocheting and sewing up a storm of baby items. And then, I also had a baby, and haven’t really had a moment since! Things are starting now to get back to normal, and I am thinking about competing again. What do you think? Should I sign up for Art Battle for this season? Time is running out!
